In September 1977 the first high speed catamaran was
launched at Prince of Wales Bay in Tasmania, 200 metres from our partner's present
site.
The Prince of Wales Bay facility includes the original assembly hall, Inches, now
used for prefabrication of much of the vessel structure, including centre bow, wave
piercers, jet rooms, engine rooms and fuel voids. Shell plate and vehicle decking are also
prefabricated at the Inches shed.
The Coverdales construction facility is currently capable of manufacturing at a
rate of five vessels per year. The unique and innovative assembly line facility enables
the launching and delivery of vessels on time and on budget.
A new drydock, Wilson, is on schedule to be finished in the year 2000. The drydock
will facilitate construction of the 120m wave piercer design, and eventually 150m wave
piercing catamarans will be built at the site.
