Computer Modeling

Our computer modelling capabilities fulfil two broad functions. Those being, a basis for computer aided manufacturing and cutting, and also a powerful means of representation of project concepts & designs.

Computer Aided Manufacturing & Cutting

We utilise a suite of sophisticated 3D computer modelling programs to produce full scale computer numeric models of entire ships. From this full size computer model we're able to extract precise patterns and tool paths for computer numerically controlled cutting (CNC cutting). This in turn drastically reduces construction material wastage and manufacturing processing time. This method of ship construction has been extensively recognised & utilised by shipbuilders the world over for it's cost and time saving benefits. See our CNC Applications page for more details.

Design Conceptual Representation

Whilst the generation of a full size computer model provides an accurate and cost effective basis for manufacturing, it also offers an outstanding means for 3D visual depiction of design concepts. From the most intricate details of the vessels fitout, to the overall hull form and geometry, we're able to model each piece and assemble them into a constructed ship model. From this model we are then able to render almost any view angle to display the vessel as a completed item, finished in a virtually limitless range of textures/colours or backgrounds. We are even able to position the vessel into a particular photo background, such as a shot of it's intended service route, to create close to a "photo real" image.

The next phase in our computer model design concept representation is to render the three dimensional model to create a "fly around" or "walk through" animation of the model.   This incorporates plotting a "fly around" path, similar to that of a helicopter fly around, from which the model will be viewed. The model is then rendered along that view path and then animated. The final result is a realistic and visually impressive three-dimensional video animation of the vessel afloat at sea.
